  MONASTERY OF SAN LORENZO DE EL ESCORIAL   

   Philip II ordered the construction of the Monastery to thank God for his benefits, set up a Royal Pantheon for his family and commemorate the battle of Saint Quintin. The works were started by Juan Bautista de Toledo in 1563, and were finished by his disciple Juan de Herrera. It is located at Abanto's mountainside. In its interior the Palaces, the Kings Patio, the Basilica, the Choir, the Royal Pantheons, the Library and the Chapter houses can be distinguished. Schedule for visits: from 10 am. to 6 pm., except Mondays. The visit's length is for one and a half hours approximately.

   
   VALLEY OF THE FALLENS   

   This monument of colossal dimensions is located at 8 km. away from the village. The immense Cross of 150 m., made of concrete and granite, is built on a boulder. It offers the visitor a solemn aspect. Schedule for visits: from 10 am. to 6 pm., except Mondays. The visit's length is for one hour.

   
   THE PRINCE´S COTTAGEE   

  This small palace, located at La Herrería, was constructed in the XVIII century. Outside it has splendid gardens which are enhanced by the magnificent views of San Lorenzo.

   ROYAL COLISEUM CHARLES III   

  It was constructed in 1770 and restored by Juan de Villanueva. It is the only XVIII century theatre that is preserved. It offers concerts, plays and ballet. You may check up its program calendar.
